Being summer we have had a few days away between Christmas and the first week of 2013. We had a two days at the beach at Ohope with family, three days at the Lakes with friends and then a few days at our bach which is at the beach on the Coromandel.
How did the eating go…. not perfect, far from it!
The first two days at the beach were OK – I had a couple of glasses of wine and a few almonds and cranberries which were put out for pre-dinner snacks. My main meals were wheat-free but I did indulge in dessert: Christmas pudding and custard.
The three days at the Lakes were disasters – I had wine, crackers, cheese, bread-roll, chocolate and desserts. DISASTROUS!! It was like I knew I would be back to “perfect eating” when we got back home so let I just let it all go. Definitely something in my mind-set I need to work on. We just never have that junk at home so it is like I eat it while I can as I know I won’t have the chance when back at home.
Then our last few days were at our Bach and eating went back to clean (as we usually have no junk in the pantry) although there was a few glasses of wine and I did have a ice-cream thing one night for dessert.
Holidays over and back home, thank goodness. As hard as it was to step on the scale when I got home, I did. I had gained 250 grams. Yeah, that was a relief as I had eaten well 60% of the time we were away but I did indulge when I know I should not have. I expected a much bigger gain. I did not think I would get off so lightly!!
We have been home for 3 days and I’ve had three very clean days of eating. I am motivated to keep it clean. We had a music gig to go to on Saturday night and it was an hour north of Auckland and I knew that dinner options would be difficult so I made a chicken salad to take with me which I ate just before we went in so I did not indulge in the offerings at the gig which were hot chips, hot dogs and pizza. I also offered to be the sober driver so I did not drink alcohol either. Staying clean is easy with a bit of forward planning.
Monday 7th Jan I am pleased to say that it is now back to routine, hubby is back to work and I have 2 more weeks of holidays but I am doing work – anyone who thinks teachers have wonderful long holidays is kind of right but many of us choose to work during this time to ease the pressure once school does resume. I can’t wait to get started with the new year as I do enjoy my job and I love routine.
So my clean eating continues. I want to get to my goal weight and stay there this year and not yo-yo. It is definitely a learning curve…. the more I am conscious of what I eat and the result it has on the scale the more I learn about myself. I have stopped running huge milage as it was a difficult balance to eat to fuel to then run and I kind of used it as an excuse to eat more if I ran more. Instead I am exercising daily but a whole lot less running and more walking which is more pleasant in the heat of summer – I hate running in the heat.
Being the New Year most people make resolutions but I don’t as they never last, instead I will set mini goals for myself:
This weeks mini-goals are:
- Drink a minimum of 2.5 litres of water (easy during the summer)
- Walk Millie twice a day
- Eat clean (protein and veges)’
Nice easy goals which I have been doing anyway. No point setting goals if they are not achievable!
great motivational message – thank you!.
well done on such a small gain but also managing to not cheat too much. you will reach all your goals this year and more. look forward to reading your blog updates.
Thanks for your encouragement!
Rooting for you! Happy New Year!

I miss my blogging, too! And I miss yours! I am busy, busy, but I need to commit to writing more often.
Thanks for checking up on me. I’m still hanging in there. I refuse to just give up and let my body go. No way. I’ve got about 5kg to lose to my dukan weight… The hardest darn 5kg ever… Hope all is well with you. Pleased to hear you are doing so well and are only 2kg away from your goal. YAY. Hope Auckland is treating you well. Take care
