Getting back to goal weight

3 02 2013

578I have finally got my weight down to a more respectable number where I can face putting it back onto my blog. It has taken a little while of clean eating but I’m getting there and it is a journey where I am learning a lot about myself. I am no longer running huge mileage as the New York marathon is behind me and I am not going back to do the “real thing” this year. We loved our two weeks in New York and had a fabulous time. I will go back to New York and ultimately I would like to run the real New York marathon but it is not going to be in the next couple of years. I have also come to the realisation that I do not need to run huge mileage to control my weight and I am far better off holistically to manage my diet. YOU CAN NOT OUT RUN A BAD DIET. That is my mantra. I am living proof! Although it does enable you to run huge miles as there is plenty of fuel in the tank.

Since December last year I have been eating a very clean diet. It consists of protein (chicken, beef, shrimp), vegetables (spinach, asparagus, tomatoes, cucumber, red onion, cabbage) and fruit (apples and strawberries). I have not eaten any processed food from a packet and I have had less than 1 litre of coke zero in the past 2 months. I do drink in excess of 3 litres of water a day and about three cups of coffee. Recently I’ve also been making a treat which consists of coconut oil, cocoa and stevia and a pinch of salt it is kind of homemade chocolate but it is only in the past few weeks that I’ve eaten that.

In terms of exercise I’ve been walking twice a day most days but definitely once for an hour and usually a second walk of 45 minutes. It is just too hot to run.

My weight loss has been gradual, I would tend to say slowish… I will lose about 500g – 1Kg then have three to four days where I weigh the same and then I will see another release of between 500g – 1Kg. Every now and then I see a blip where it goes up a tad, not a lot but on the whole the trend is down.

So I am looking to lose 3.8Kg more over however long it takes…. I’m hoping 4 weeks but who knows…. it may take 8 weeks… I am going to be patient. I am focusing more on clean eating as it is more sustainable than exercising like a mad woman.

So til next time that is an update of where I am at on this journey we call life.
